Abstract(s)
Contemporary life is marked by new challenges in the way old age and ageing are perceived, giving rise to various responses in the search for practices that promote well being and greater involvement of citizens in their communities. In this context, the concept of active and healthy ageing stands out, widely related to social inclusion and solidarity between generations, where education plays an important role. With these assumptions as a backdrop, we will present the ProAlfa Project - Literacy for and by seniors, developed with residents of a residential structure in the municipality of Leiria and senior students from the 60+ Programme at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, Portugal. This project took the form of workshops for learning to read and write, using socio-educational animation strategies to promote social interaction. The data collected from direct observation and semi-structured interviews with the participants (senior students from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria and AMITEI residents) allows us to conclude that the workshops promoted well-being, autonomy and conviviality among the generations involved, contributing to their ageing process(es).
