- A adaptação a contextos de ensino a distância por estudantes seniores de uma instituição de ensino superior Portuguesa, numa conjuntura pandémicaPublication . Lopes, Sara; Beato, Isabel; Pimentel, Luísa; Maurício, CezarinaA pandemia por SARS-CoV-2 colocou grandes desafios às instituições de ensino superior (IES), e o Politécnico de Leiria não ficou imune a esta crise. Num contexto em que a educação ao longo da vida faz parte das agendas políticas nacionais e internacionais, as instituições de ensino superior portuguesas têm vindo a reconhecer a importância desse paradigma, proporcionando momentos formativos e de partilha intergeracional para públicos diversificados. Com este artigo pretende-se perceber o processo de adaptação a contextos de ensino a distância pelos estudantes de uma formação sénior - o Programa 60+, do Politécnico de Leiria -, perante a situação pandémica. A partir de um estudo de caso, de contornos descritivo-exploratório, procuramos refletir sobre os processos de mudança de um sistema de ensino tradicional e presencial para a utilização de metodologias de ensino e aprendizagem suportadas por ferramentas digitais. Participaram no estudo 35 estudantes seniores inscritos no 2º semestre do ano letivo 2019/2020. Concluiu-se que a maioria dos respondentes sentiu dificuldades na adaptação ao novo contexto que se impôs de forma inesperada. Mais de metade não participou nas atividades a distância e afirma preferir as atividades presenciais. Dos que participaram nas atividades a distância, a maioria não sentiu dificuldade no acesso às plataformas e na utilização das ferramentas digitais, o que permite evidenciar a importância da formação neste domínio. Resultados que vão ao encontro das orientações nacionais e internacionais para a adoção de estratégias que promovam a literacia digital.
- Assistive Mobile Applications for DyslexiaPublication . Madeira, Jorge; Silva, Catarina; Ferreira, Paula Cristina; Marcelino, LuísThe ability to read is one of the main skills of a human being. However, some of us have reading difficulties, regardless of social status, level of intelligence or education. This disorder is the main characteristic of dyslexia and is maintained throughout life,requiring early and specialized intervention. Dyslexia is defined as a learning disturbance in the area of reading, writing and spelling. Although the numbers of prevalence rely heavily on the type of investigation conducted, several studies indicate that up to 17% of the world population is dyslexic, and that men have greater prevalence. In this work we will address the use of assistive mobile applications for dyslexia by analyzing possible solutions and proposing a prototype of a mobile application that can be used by dyslexic and whilst giving feedback both to the dyslexic him/herself and to the assisting technician or teacher. The implemented prototype focuses the Portuguese language and was tested with Portuguese students with ages between 10 and 12 years old. Preliminary results show that the proposed gamified set of activities, allow dyslexics to improve multisensory perception, constituting an added value facilitator of adaptiveness and learning.

Beato, Isabel; Ferreira, Paula Cristina; Lopes, Sara; Mangas, CatarinaO estudo que se apresenta foi realizado em uma instituição pública portuguesa de Ensino Superior, da região Centro Litoral visando perceber que mudanças ocorreram na vida pessoal, social e profissional dos estudantes diplomados que ingressaram nessa instituição, a partir da prova de acesso para maiores de 23 anos, e entender a importância da formação superior para adultos. Os dados obtidos mostram a relevância da formação de adultos enquanto razão válida para uma maior realização pessoal e aquisição ou atualização de conhecimentos, ainda que não tenha contribuído muito para a mudança de profissão ou progressão da carreira. Os inquiridos também deixam claro que os motivos financeiros são um entrave significativo ao prosseguimento dos estudos.

In this way, organizational sustainability is gaining new ground and plays a fundamental role as a way of attaining a broad goal in terms of sustainable development. Higher education institutions should develop relationship and transparency strategies of corporate actions in order to create trust and also to leverage synergies by using alumni networks. This can be achieved through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), especially the web, and the most recent and globalized platforms like Facebook and Linkedin as privileged channels for communicating with alumni. In addition, the development of actions that try to promote an approach and the engagement of alumni among different initiatives not only inside the institution, but also in terms of local and/or regional context, could create added value and contribute to local tourism development. The present study aims to analyze the development of the network of a higher education institution, namely, the IPLeiri@lumni Network, assessing the platform design, the measures taken by the institution to renew the relationship with their alumni, and the resulting advantages from the paths taken by some alumni as a way of identifying the potential added value for the development of local tourism of the region.
- Alumni from the Polytechnic of Leiria: path & challengesPublication . Seco, Graça; Beato, Isabel; Duarte, ÂngelaIn this communication we will analyse the development of the Alumni Network of Polytechnic of Leiria, a higher public education institution in Portugal. The Alumni Network of Polytechnic of Leiria was constituted in February of 2012 with the aim to recover alumni relations, facilitating interactions, promoting the sharing of experiences and reinforcing the Institution’s recognition/image, empowering the long life learning, the information and knowledge updates and the reinforcement of an oriented community for the scientific and technological production. The Institution has around 12,000 current students and we estimate that 40,000 have finished their courses, short cycle’s, undergraduates and master’s degrees. The network has more than 4,000 registered alumni. In LinkedIn there are 13,500 former students connected and in Facebook there are more than 7,000 alumni following the page. This network develops activities towards former students such as: walk gatherings; anniversary cards; alumni days; the publishing of conferences, seminars, program offers; direct invitation to be a speaker; testimony collection; and alumni passport. The alumni passport is the official document sent to all alumni when they register that grants special conditions like access to canteens/bars and libraries; participation with special discount in events, conferences, courses and discounts in enterprises with an agreement with Polytechnic of Leiria. The testimony collection (flyers, videos) is also a great moment in the network since all the community can see the experiences before and after the alumni attended their school. The former students report their memories as resident students and the importance of the training received, presenting suggestions for the network life. Actually most of the activities are developed with the involvement and collaboration of current students who implement marketing strategies, creativity and new work tools to engage alumni. We regularly publish the initiatives/enterprises of our alumni and the prizes obtained. This is very courageous for them and we let all of the community know what they are doing, enabling them to be proud. This is also a way to inspire the current and future students. This is also a way to give visibility to the Institution which sees its reputation spread. Alumni of this initiative are also promotors of employment and are willing to recruit students from the same Institution. The mentors/ambassadors living in the country or even abroad are well engage to help other students. We are proud with the network development but conscious that a long way is waiting ahead, regarding the bigger involvement needed from the internal academic community if we want to reach volunteering and fundraise, another dimension of alumni relations and to proceed the alumni potential.

Silva, José Manuel; Beato, IsabelNo âmbito das atividades do Centro de Investigação em Políticas e Sistemas Educativos (CIPSE), do Instituto Politécnico de Leiria, com a colaboração do FOR.CET, unidade orgânica do Instituto a quem incumbe a realização dos Cursos de Especialização Tecnológica (CET), realizou-se, em 2011, a Conferência Internacional “O Ensino Superior de Curta Duração: Os CET e o Futuro”. As comunicações então apresentadas são agora reunidas nesta publicação, disponibilizando-se à comunidade de interessados em matéria de educação e formação um conjunto de textos de especialistas e de testemunhos de empresários e de formandos que podem contribuir para aprofundar a reflexão sobre o papel dos Cursos de Especialização Tecnológica, o seu contributo para a formação profissional e o desenvolvimento do país e perspetivando o seu futuro no contexto de formação similar nos países da União Europeia. O objetivo da conferência plasma-se nesta edição, cujo intento é contribuir para o acervo de informação que permita um melhor conhecimento da experiência portuguesa nesta área e uma perspetiva para o futuro, nomeadamente equacionando uma possível evolução para um ciclo curto de Ensino Superior, Short Cycle Higher Education (SCHE).
- Ingressar no ensino superior depois dos 23 anos: oportunidades e motivaçõesPublication . Ferreira, Paula Cristina; Mangas, Catarina; Lopes, Sara; Beato, IsabelO artigo pretende apresentar um estudo de caso, aplicado numa instituição pública portuguesa de ensino superior, que teve a intenção de caracterizar os estudantes que ingressaram nessa instituição a partir da prova de acesso para maiores de 23 anos, conhecer os motivos para o seu ingresso, bem como a sua perspetiva sobre esta forma de acesso ao ensino superior. Foi realizado um estudo de abordagem mista concretizado através de um inquérito por questionário respondido por 180 ex-estudantes. A aquisição de novos conhecimentos, a valorização pessoal e a mudança profissional são os motivos mais considerados para o acesso ao ensino superior. A leitura dos dados permite destacar a importância das políticas educativas para adultos, que, no caso português, são ainda escassas e localizadas, para a promoção de oportunidades de aprendizagem para todos.

- The Higher Short Term : the CET and the futurePublication . Silva, José Manuel; Beato, IsabelAs part of the activities of the Centre for Policy Research and Education Systems (CIPSE), the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, in collaboration with the FOR.CET, organizational unit of the Institute which is responsible for the achievement of technological specialization courses (CET), held on in 2011, the International Conference “the Higher Short Term: the CET and the Future.” The papers presented are gathered in this publication, available to the community of stakeholders in education and training, a set of texts from specialists and testimonials from entrepreneurs and graduates who can contribute to further reflection on the role of Technological Specialization Courses, as well as their contribution to the training and development of the country and its future in the context of similar training in EU countries. The conference goal is shaped in this edition, whose intent is to contribute for the collection of information that allows a better understanding of the Portuguese experience in this area and a perspective for the future, including a possible evolution towards Short Cycle Higher Education (SCHE).
