  • Creative Crossroads: A Bibliometric Analysis of Subcultures, Arts, and Countercultures in Shaping Emerging Sociocultural Trends
Publication . Cantú, William Afonso; Milhano, Sandrina
This study delves into the intricate interplay among the notions of “subculture,” “arts,” and “counterculture” via a comprehensive bibliometric analysis. The focus is to elucidate the dynamics of the artistic realm and its influence on the emergence of sociocultural trends. Through the analysis, the research uncovers the nuanced connections and complexities inherent in these concepts. The findings underscore the dynamic nature of the research domain, unveiling a set of influences and interdependencies that underscore the pivotal role of art in shaping identities and catalysing social movements, within the broader context of mainstream society. The influential publications and bibliographic coupling networks elucidate established research domains and document the ongoing dynamics interconnecting the themes. Moreover, the co-word analysis delineates prospective avenues for research within the sphere of arts and subcultures that encompass the examination of symbiotic relationships between art and politics. Central to the investigation is the assertion that “subculture,” “arts,” and “counterculture” are deeply intertwined, comprising an intricate socio-cultural fabric. Art expresses and shapes the identities of subcultures, challenging dominant norms through counterculture and promoting social changes. The synthesis of these concepts highlights the transformative power of creativity in propelling cultural change and innovation, epitomizing an emerging and influential mindset warranting thorough examination within the purview of trend studies.
  • The Language of Cultural Studies and the Arts: A digital mapping of entanglements and trends based on the digital humanities
Publication . Cantú, William Afonso; Sousa, Jenny
This study explores the intersection between Cultural Studies and the Arts, highlighting their theoretical, methodological and epistemological links. Culture, as a site of symbolic disputes and the production of meanings, plays a central role in this intersection, closely intertwined with the construction of identity and material representation. In this context, the Arts emerge as human representation, functioning as aesthetic expressions and discursive practices that relate to social, political and historical processes. The integration of Digital Humanities into this process has contributed to these analyses, introducing methods of analysis that combine traditional humanities methods with technological tools to map citation networks and theoretical trends. This research uses bibliometric analysis to identify fundamental theoretical nuclei and emerging patterns at the intersection of Cultural Studies and the Arts. The results reveal a growing interdisciplinary articulation between these fields, particularly around themes related to identity, representation, power and symbolic mediation. The study provides an epistemological cartography that improves understanding of the theoretical synergies in Cultural Studies and demonstrates the relevance of digital methodologies for cultural research, reinforcing the transformative potential of interdisciplinary approaches. Through the methodology and results, this research contributes to broadening the analytical scope of Cultural Studies and encourages further research into artistic production, cultural criticism and evolving methodologies in the humanities.
  • Emotions, arts and intervention: trends, synergies and perspectives through a bibliometric analysis
Publication . Cantú, William; Milhano, Sandrina; Magueta, Lúcia
The connection between the arts, intervention and emotions promotes reflective thinking about new ways of intervening in society to improve socio-cultural relations. This article presents an analysis that seeks to understand the intersection of the concepts of intervention, arts and emotions, helping to map the relationships and scientific developments linked to these concepts. A descriptive and exploratory study was carried out using a bibliometric analysis with performance analysis and science mapping approaches to analyze scientific production on these concepts, identifying trends, influential authors, emerging themes and collaboration networks. The results of this investigation show the potential of the research field, the thematic synergies and the multidisciplinarity involved in the research, making it possible to understand the dynamism of these concepts and the impact they have on the relationship with the ‘human being’. The combination of these concepts results in scattered data and less concrete relationship networks, underlining the specificity of research in this context. Through this research, it is possible to observe broad patterns in diverse subjects such as ‘human’, ‘performance’, ‘art’, ‘education’, ‘emotions’, ‘mental health’, among others, with possibilities for future application. These results seek to open doors for further research and present the most important works, the authors and the fields of action with growth potential.
