- Multidrug resistance assessment of indoor air in Portuguese long-term and acute healthcare settingsPublication . Santos-Marques, C.; Teixeira, C.; Pinheiro, R.; Brück, W. M.; Pereira, Sónia Gonçalves; dos Santos Marques, Catarina; Silva Teixeira, Camila; Pinheiro, Rafael; Gonçalves Pereira, SóniaBackground: Knowledge about air as a pool of pathogens and multidrug resistance (MDR) in healthcare units apart from hospitals is scarce. Aim: To investigate these features in a Portuguese long-term healthcare unit (LTHU) and a central hospital (CH). Methods: Air samples were collected and their microbial load (bacteria and fungi) determined. Bacterial isolates were randomly selected for further characterization, particularly identification by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and polymerase chain reaction screening of extended-spectrum b-lactamases, carbapenemase genes and mecA gene, with RAPD profile assessment of positive results of the latter. Findings: A total of 192 samples were collected (LTHU: 86; CH: 106). LTHU showed a statistically significantly higher bacterial load. CH bacteria and fungi loads in inpatient sites were statistically significantly lower than in outpatients or non-patient sites. A total of 164 bacterial isolates were identified (MALDI-TOF: 78; presumptively: 86), the majority belonging to Staphylococcus genus (LTHU: 42; CH: 57). The highest antimicrobial resistance rate was to erythromycin and vancomycin the least, in both settings. Eighteen isolates (11%) were classified as MDR (LTHU: 9; CH: 9), with 7 MDR Staphylococcus isolates (LTHU: 4; CH: 3) presenting mecA. Nine non-MDR Staphylococcus (LTHU: 5; CH: 4) also presented mecA. Conclusion: The current study highlights that healthcare unit indoor air can be an important pool of MDR pathogens and antimicrobial resistance genes. Also, LTHUs appear to have poorer air quality than hospitals, as well as supportive areas compared to curative care areas. This may suggest possible yet unknown routes of infection that need to be explored.
- The Language of Cultural Studies and the Arts: A digital mapping of entanglements and trends based on the digital humanitiesPublication . Cantú, William Afonso; Sousa, JennyThis study explores the intersection between Cultural Studies and the Arts, highlighting their theoretical, methodological and epistemological links. Culture, as a site of symbolic disputes and the production of meanings, plays a central role in this intersection, closely intertwined with the construction of identity and material representation. In this context, the Arts emerge as human representation, functioning as aesthetic expressions and discursive practices that relate to social, political and historical processes. The integration of Digital Humanities into this process has contributed to these analyses, introducing methods of analysis that combine traditional humanities methods with technological tools to map citation networks and theoretical trends. This research uses bibliometric analysis to identify fundamental theoretical nuclei and emerging patterns at the intersection of Cultural Studies and the Arts. The results reveal a growing interdisciplinary articulation between these fields, particularly around themes related to identity, representation, power and symbolic mediation. The study provides an epistemological cartography that improves understanding of the theoretical synergies in Cultural Studies and demonstrates the relevance of digital methodologies for cultural research, reinforcing the transformative potential of interdisciplinary approaches. Through the methodology and results, this research contributes to broadening the analytical scope of Cultural Studies and encourages further research into artistic production, cultural criticism and evolving methodologies in the humanities.

- Driving Behavior Classification Using a ConvLSTMPublication . Pingo, Alberto; Castro, João; Loureiro, Paulo; Mendes, Silvio; Bernardino, Anabela; Miragaia, Rolando; Husyeva, IrynaThis work explores the classification of driving behaviors using a hybrid deep learning model that combines Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) with Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks (ConvLSTM). Sensor data are collected from a smartphone application and undergo a preprocessing pipeline, including data normalization, labeling, and feature extraction, to enhance the model’s performance. By capturing temporal and spatial dependencies within driving patterns, the proposed ConvLSTM model effectively differentiates between normal and aggressive driving behaviors. The model is trained and evaluated against traditional stacked LSTM and Bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM) architectures, demonstrating superior accuracy and robustness. Experimental results confirm that the preprocessing techniques improve classification performance, ensuring high reliability in driving behavior recognition. The novelty of this work lies in a simple data preprocessing methodology combined with the specific application scenario. By enhancing data quality before feeding it into the AI model, we improve classification accuracy and robustness. The proposed framework not only optimizes model performance but also demonstrates practical feasibility, making it a strong candidate for real-world deployment.
- Quality of life of women with urinary incontinence in the postpartum period: an integrative literature reviewPublication . Lopes, Filipa Daniela; Henriques, Carolina; Lopes, Maria da Saudade; Mendes, Isabel MargaridaUrinary incontinence (UI) during pregnancy and after childbirth can negatively impact women's lifestyles, health, and well-being. It is a common problem that is often normalized by both healthcare professionals and women. This integrative review examines the influence of UI on women's quality of life (QoL) during the postpartum period and identifies the main affected domains. It will also contribute to the discussion of the results of a primary study. Fourteen studies were included in this review, mainly from Brazil and Spain, with most using quantitative methods. The findings indicate that UI negatively affects the QoL of women during the postpartum period, with mixed UI causing greater discomfort despite stress UI being more frequent. The main affected domains are general health perception, physical functioning, daily life activities, psychological/emotional/mental and social aspects, and sexuality. Effective interventions should promote women's self-care and enhance their awareness and recognition of the problem. These interventions should go beyond physical aspects to address emotional and psychological dimensions, such as low self-esteem and self-image, secrecy, embarrassment, and reluctance to seek help. Nurse midwives have specialized skills and can work within multidisciplinary teams to improve the QoL of women with UI at a time of increased vulnerability.
- Leadership Development in Undergraduate Nursing Students: A Scoping ReviewPublication . Costa, Patrícia; Pereira de Sousa, Joana; Nascimento, Tiago; Cruchinho, Paulo; Nunes, Elisabete; Gaspar, Filomena; Lucas, PedroBackground: Leadership is present at all levels of nursing and is essential to ensure the continuous improvement of nursing practice environments and the quality of the care provided to patients. This reality, coupled with the growing complexity of today’s health contexts, emphasises the importance of promoting the development of leadership skills in undergraduate nursing students, thus training nurses who are capable of acting as leaders and agents of change. To this end, a scoping review was carried out to map the available scientific evidence on the development of leadership in undergraduate nursing students. Methods: The scoping review was conducted according to two systematic review guidelines. The searches were conducted across a total of five databases for published studies and two databases for the unpublished/grey literature. The data extraction and analysis were performed by two reviewers, who independently screened and extracted data from the selected studies. Results: This review included 25 articles, and four thematic categories were identified—students’ perceptions of leadership; strategies to train leaders in nursing; the evaluation of leadership development; and conceptual models and curricula. The main conclusions highlight the need to reformulate existing curricula, the importance of integrating student-centred pedagogical approaches to promote leadership development, the impact that evaluating leadership development has on the whole process, contributing to the construction of an identity as a leader, and the need for it to be done in a structured and progressive way. Conclusions: The teaching of leadership should be promoted from the beginning of training, in a transversal, continuous, consistent, sustained, and articulated way, incorporating different disciplines, because only in this way will it be possible to train competent nurse leaders who are capable of acting in today’s complex and dynamic health contexts.
