- 802.21-MPA-IMS ArchitecturePublication . Rodrigues, Carlos Miguel de Jesus; Rabadão, Carlos; Pereira, AntónioMobility has become a keyword nowadays with the evolution of mobile devices market and proliferation of realtime services. IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a single, standardized service framework that supports voice, video, data and messaging services, but does not provide seamless mobility for packet based sessions. This paper purposes an IMS architecture with IEEE 802.21 and media-independent pre-authentication (MPA) integrated. IEEE 802.21 can enable this seamless mobility in IMS and, additionally, MPA provides a secure handover optimization scheme, reducing, as a consequence, handover latency. The main goal of this architecture is to provide seamless and secure handovers between different access technologies in an IMS-based environment.
- AMIGA - An Interactive Musical Environment for GerontechnologyPublication . Reis, Lee Scott; Reis, Gustavo; Barroso, João; Pereira, AntónioBenefits provided by music in humans have been reinforced through several studies, mainly by active participation in musical therapy sessons, with surprising results in physical and psychological rehabilitation. However, all the previous implemented approaches require specialized hardware to function and complex configurations to set-up. We define a computational system focused on the elderly to allow musical expressiveness through motion, solely using the resources available in an ordinary home computer. To evaluate our approach, we developed a prototype and piloted acceptance tests on several senior citizens, with an average age of eighty-three. Our experiments showed high levels of interest from the senior citizens, denoting positive capabilities of well-being and life quality enrichment. The performed experiments have also shown that an ordinary computer is capable of performing the proposed methodology, without any restriction.
- Diffusion and distribution of touristic routes: Web platform's architecture on tourism contextPublication . Hugo Miguel Pereira Chambel; Pereira, António Manuel de JesusIn this document it will be described the architecture of an information system that was originated in an innovative idea based roots in joining two milestones of the social environment, tourism and technology. Separating the components then it will be described tourism, represented by tourism regions and the technology that allows navigation in small footpaths using Android mobile devices, which result on support of information and communication technologies to tourism and regions themselves.
- An EAI Based Integration Solution for Science and Research Outcomes Information ManagementPublication . Sequeira, Fernando Rosa; Frantz, Rafael Z.; Yevseyeva, Iryna; Emmerich, Michael T.M.; Basto-Fernandes, VitorIn this paper we present an Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) based proposal for research outcomes information management. The proposal is contextualized in terms of national and international science and research outcomes information management, corresponding supporting information systems and ecosystems. Information systems interoperability problems, approaches, technologies and tools are presented and applied to the research outcomes information management case. A business and technological perspective is provided, including the conceptual analysis and modelling, an integration solution based in a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) and the orchestration engine to execute the proposed solution. For illustrative purposes, the role and information system needs of a research unit is assumed as the representative case.
- Elder Care Modular SolutionPublication . Marcelino, Isabel; Pereira, António Manuel de JesusThe Elder Care solution has two primary goals: monitoring vital signs, sending alerts to family and specialized help and provide a social network in order to wrap all older population to avoid social isolation [1][2]. In this paper we will show the methodology used to obtain Elder Care's architecture and point some guidelines to our present work: Elder Care's implementation.
- Energy systems models for efficiency towards Smart CitiesPublication . Galvao, Joao R.; Moreira, Licinio M.; Teixeira Ascenso, Rita Margarida; Leitao, Sergio A.The way of energy use in the European Union (EU) needs to be improved by continuous promotion of sustainability and an efficient manner to ensure citizens' quality of life. This work presents two new energy models: i) retrofit of the present energy system in a public library building; ii) improving energy efficiency in public lighting using new technological solution Light Emission Diode (LED), new methods of control and management while leveraging the use of renewable energy as power supply. Both can act as a vehicle to disseminate concepts of Smart City (SC) and Internet of Things (IoT), also, as the development of energy production based on renewable energies: biomass and sunlight. With these two proposals it is intended to improve energy efficiency behaviours reducing energy waste, making use of the latest techniques and equipment, which promote more efficient management. This will lead to an effective reduction of energy consumption associated with public lighting while maintaining recommended levels of luminance in different situations. Finally this research is also to complete, a long-term goal of the EU, which is to develop a society that better uses their energy systems and, in Portugal, increase the use of available renewable energy sources.
- Evolutionary Multi-objective Scheduling for Anti-Spam Filtering Throughput OptimizationPublication . Ruano-Ordás, David; Basto-Fernandes, Vitor; Yevseyeva, Iryna; Méndez, José RamónThis paper presents an evolutionary multi-objective optimization problem formulation for the anti-spam filtering problem, addressing both the classification quality criteria (False Positive and False Negative error rates) and email messages classification time (minimization). This approach is compared to single objective problem formulations found in the literature, and its advantages for decision support and flexible/adaptive anti-spam filtering configuration is demonstrated. A study is performed using the Wirebrush4SPAM framework anti-spam filtering and the SpamAssassin email dataset. The NSGA-II evolutionary multi-objective optimization algorithm was applied for the purpose of validating and demonstrating the adoption of this novel approach to the anti-spam filtering optimization problem, formulated from the multi-objective optimization perspective. The results obtained from the experiments demonstrated that this optimization strategy allows the decision maker (anti-spam filtering system administrator) to select among a set of optimal and flexible filter configuration alternatives with respect to classification quality and classification efficiency.
- Fighting Elders’ Social and Technological Exclusion: The TV Based ApproachPublication . Correia, Luís; Costa, Nuno; Pereira, AntónioWe are assisting to the fastest grow of senior population ever and that tendency has brought several challenges for governments, families and for the elderly. The society was not prepared for that. On the one hand, there are many elderly who live alone in the cities and, on the other hand, active people is moving to the cities looking for a better life while leaving behind the villages where they born and grow and the older family members. On the other side, everyone is expecting the aid of technology in order to solve or at least minimize this problem. This paper present a video-calling service targeted for elderly social and technological exclusion and promoting socialization while using recent technology embedded into well-known electronic devices like TVs. The evaluation of results showed that when assisted technology is encapsulated into everyday objects, older people can use it seamlessly, without any learning curve.
- Filtering Email Addresses, Credit Card Numbers and Searching for Bitcoin Artifacts with the Autopsy Digital Forensics SoftwarePublication . Domingues, Patricio; Frade, Miguel; Parreira, João MotaEmail addresses and credit card numbers found on digital forensic images are frequently an important asset in a forensic casework. However, the automatic harvesting of these data often yields many false positives. This paper presents the Forensic Enhanced Analysis (FEA) module for the Autopsy digital forensic software. FEA aims to eliminate false positives of email addresses and credit card numbers harvested by Autopsy, thus reducing the workload of the forensic examiner. FEA also harvests potential Bitcoin public addresses and private keys and validates them by looking into Bitcoin’s blockchain for the transactions linked to public addresses. FEA explores the report functionality of Autopsy and allows exports in CSV, HTML and XLS formats. Experimental results over four digital forensic images show that FEA eliminates as many as of email addresses and of credit card numbers.
