A person with visual impairment is usually deprived of enjoying arts and culture because there are no accessible measures that allow her/him to appreciate these kinds of services and/or products. COVID-19 changed the world as we knew it: the demands driven by the successive confinements have forced cultural agents to reinvent themselves, making them thinking new ways to reach different audiences, which may contribute to expanding some accessible techniques, such as audio description, decentralising the access to art. Audio description is one of the resources that can contribute to culture fruition and consists of an accessibility technique that allows to “transform” images into words so that visually impaired people can know and understand the visual world that surrounds them and to which they normally do not have access. This technique is not known to everyone, which may make it difficult to expand and implement. So, it is urgent to know what audio description is so that more cultural spaces may use it and more people with visual impairment can enjoy it. It is crucial to disclose examples of good practices that allow art to be taken into the peoples’ homes. Thus, the present work aims to promote reflection on the potentialities that may have arisen in these times of confinement by COVID-19 and to present examples of good practices in making the arts available to people with visual impairment.
