Abstract(s)
Design has the power to challenge conventions, to shape new narratives, and to redefine objects and practices. Kinky Ceramics emerges from this transgressive impulse, intertwining the ancestral tradition of ceramics with the symbolic universe of fetishism. Here, classical typologies are subverted, gaining new layers of meaning through the incorporation of BDSM artifacts. Clay, an ancestral medium, becomes provocation and manifesto—a tactile invitation to reflect on the plurality of desire and the constraints imposed by normativity. This project extends beyond the creation of objects; it transforms ceramics into language, a visual and tactile discourse that provokes, unsettles, and questions. The collaboration with ceramicist Miguel Neto allowed artisanal knowledge to merge with speculative exploration, proving that tradition is not static but a field of continuous reinterpretation. By bridging methodologies from critical design and speculative design, Kinky Ceramics positions itself within the friction between past and future, between norm and dissidence. More than a collection, it is a material essay on the relationship between body, desire, and culture, a manifesto shaped in clay and consolidated with fire.
