- eSchi – an e-therapy tool for rehabilitation and trainingPublication . Reis, Catarina I.; Freire, Carla; Fernandez, Joaquin; Monguet, Josep M.E-therapy aims to provide therapy sessions through recent communication mediums (internet) between patients and therapists. eSchi is an e-Therapy tool currently being developed by the authors and will work as a complement to traditional rehabilitation and training practices, It has distinct modules and the patient module, here described, will have patients as their primary actors. These patients have special psychiatric conditions that imply special attention and considerations both in the design and implementation phases of the software. In order to provide the ideal tool for its target audience, previous to the delivery, a test phase was conducted. In the test phase, both a beta test and heuristic evaluations were made. Tests results showed the lack of some significant aspects that were then corrected and a new version of the tool was produced.
- Promoting social network awareness: A social network monitoring systemPublication . Cadima, Rita; Ferreira, Carlos; Monguet, Josep; Ojeda, Jordi; Fernandez, JoaquinTo increase communication and collaboration opportunities, members of a community must be aware of the social networks that exist within that community. This paper describes a social network monitoring system - the KIWI system - that enables users to register their interactions and visualize their social networks. The system was implemented in a distributed research community and the results have shown that KIWI facilitates collecting information about social interactions. Furthermore, the visualization of the social networks, given as feedback, appeared to have a positive impact on the group, augmenting their social network awareness.
- Schizophrenic patients’ expectations facing technology in a cognitive rehabilitation therapy environmentPublication . Freire, Carla; Reis, Catarina I.; Monguet, Josep M.; Fernandez, JoaquineTherapy can bring numerous advantages, however people have to adapt to a different discourse. It would be interesting to know patients’ expectations regarding to this type of therapy. A questionnaire was developed with the most studied factors proved to have an important role in technology acceptance. The results allowed highlighting some important factors that influence behavioral intention, and made it possible to verify that some of these factors may be linked or influence others among different dimensions.
- Towards an adaptive web based learning environment for treating and diagnosing chronic woundsPublication . Costa, João; Costa, Rogério; Santos, Gustavo; Gaspar, Pedro; Fernandez, Joaquin; Monguet, Josep M.A wise decision when choosing adequate products to treat chronic wounds depends on proper diagnosis and characterization of the chronic wound. Developing skills for treating and diagnosing chronic wounds requires not only academic knowledge, but also other types of knowledge not easily acquired through traditional instructional methodologies. The expertise obtained by individuals, when they are solving real life practical cases, is very important to diagnose and correctly treat chronic wounds. This additional empirical knowledge is not easily transmitted in classrooms, and so the academic instruction should be completed with real life practical examples and practical cases. The e-Fer Web Based Learning Environment for chronic wounds, is a case based learning tool for assisting nursing students to develop skills for diagnosing and treating chronic wounds. This paper will briefly describe some characteristics of the platform, and our main goal is to present our novel approach to implement the adaptive version of the learning environment. We are also going to discuss our user model, and the types of learning support that we decided to implement in the system.
