Crianças e jovens autistas: impacto na dinâmica familiar e pessoal de seus pais

| dc.description.abstract | Contexto: O autismo é considerado uma perturbação do neurodesenvolvimento, com implicações severas no comportamento, comunicação e na interação social, tornando-se uma fonte de preocupações para os pais. Objetivo: Determinar as necessidades dos pais de crianças e jovens com autismo e relacionar essas necessidades com funcionalidade, estratégias de coping familiar, estado emocional e a satisfação com a vida. Métodos: Um estudo correlacionado foi desenvolvido numa amostra não probabilística, de conveniência, constituída por 50 pais de crianças e jovens autistas. Os pais preencheram um questionário constituído por dados sociodemográficos, o Family Needs Survey (FNS); Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scales (FACES-III), Escala de Ansiedade, Depressão e Stress (EADS), Family Crisis Oriented Personal Scales (F-COPES) e o Índice de Bem-Estar Pessoal (IBP). Para análise dos dados, recorreu-se a técnicas de estatística descritiva e inferencial. Resultados: Mais informações sobre os serviços (médicos e de segurança social) de que o filho possa vir a beneficiar-se foi a necessidade mais referida pelos pais. Os pais com mais necessidades apresentaram estados afetivos mais negativos, utilizaram mais estratégias de reenquadramento e aquisição de apoio social – relações íntimas. Em média, os pais reportaram um valor de bem-estar pessoal acima da mediana, contudo inferior ao apurado para a média da população portuguesa. Conclusão: Ser pai de uma criança ou jovem com autismo representa ter necessidades insatisfeitas que podem ter implicações tanto no nível pessoal como no familiar. Sugere-se que se providenciem recursos nas vertentes social, educativa e de saúde, no sentido de criar, de forma planeada e abrangente, serviços que respondam às necessidades específicas dessas famílias. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | Context: Autism is thought to be a neurodevelopmental disorder. It has a severe impact on behaviour, communication and social interaction and is a source of worry for parents. Objective: To ascertain the needs of the parents of children and young people with autism and relate these needs to functionality, family coping strategies, emotional state and satisfaction with life. Methods: A correlation study was undertaken on a non-probabilistic sample of 50 parents of autistic children and young people. The parents completed a questionnaire consisting of sociodemographic data, the Family Needs Survey (FNS); Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scales, (FACES-III), Depression Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS), Family Crisis Oriented Personal Scales(F-COPES) and the Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI). Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. Results: More information on the services (medical and social security) from which their child could benefit was the need most often mentioned by parents. The parents with the most needs exhibited the most negative emotional states; they used more strategies to reframe and acquire social assistance – intimate relations. On average parents reported a level of personal wellbeing above the median, but below that found for the average Portuguese population. Conclusion: Being the parent of a child or young person with autism signifies having unmet needs and this may have implications at both personal and family level. It is suggested that resources should be made available in the social, educational and health areas designed to achieve planned and inclusive services capable of responding to the specific needs of these families. | eng |
