| dc.description.abstract | Este artigo resulta de uma investigação sobre a difusão do desporto em Leiria, capital do distrito homónimo, situada na região centro de Portugal. A análise centra-se no jornal Leiria Desportiva, que circulou brevemente entre 1924 e 1925, tendo sido o primeiro e único dedicado a este tema na cidade durante a Primeira República (1910-1926). Neste período, o desporto torna-se uma atividade popular de grande abrangência no país. Não por acaso, houve um interesse gradual dos leirienses em atividades como futebol, ciclismo, pedestrianismo e atletismo. A metodologia consistiu na leitura e digitalização de 30 edições do semanário, bem como na organização e descrição das modalidades e temas relacionados com o desporto em editoriais. Quanto ao enquadramento teórico, utilizaram-se os estudos de Pinheiro (2011) sobre a história da imprensa desportiva em Portugal, de Pinheiro e Coelho (2012) sobre Desporto, República e Imprensa em Portugal e também de Gonçalves (2000), que trata do desporto amador em Leiria, na primeira metade do século XX. Não há informações sobre as razões que levaram ao encerramento do jornal, no entanto, na sua curta existência, procurou pautar os editoriais pela independência e crítica em relação à organização, em particular, do futebol na cidade. O jornal esteve também atento às discussões sobre educação física, educação, higiene e imprensa desportiva que ocorriam noutros países do continente europeu. Certamente, novos estudos possibilitariam avançar sobre o lugar ocupado pelo desporto na imprensa regional ao longo do século XX. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This article results from an investigation into the spread of sports in Leiria, the capital of the homonymous district located in the central region of Portugal. The analysis focuses on the Leiria Desportiva newspaper, which circulated briefly between 1924 and 1925, being the first and only newspaper dedicated to this topic in the city during the First Republic (1910-1926). Throughout this period, sports became a popular and widespread activity in Portugal. Not surprisingly, there was a gradual interest among the people of Leiria in activities such as football, cycling, pedestrianism, and athletics. The methodology involved the reading and digitization of 30 issues of the weekly newspaper, as well as the organization and description of sports disciplines and related topics in editorials. As for the theoretical framework, Pinheiro's studies (2011) on the history of sports press in Portugal, Pinheiro and Coelho's work (2012) on Sports, Republic, and Press in Portugal, and Gonçalves' research (2000) on amateur sports in Leiria in the first half of the 20th century were used. There is no information about the reasons that led to the newspaper’s closing; however, during its short existence, it sought to emphasize editorial independence and criticism regarding the organization, particularly in relation to football in the city. The newspaper also focused on discussions about physical education, education, hygiene, and sports press that were taking place in other European countries. Certainly, further research could illuminate the significance of sports in the regional media throughout the 20th century. | pt_PT |
