enfermagem.
This report was developed within the scope of the Master's Degree in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing and aims to present, through a critical and reflective analysis, the development and consolidation of specialized nursing and master's level competencies in this field. The first part outlines the internship contexts and their contribution to competency development. This is followed by a critical reflection on learning processes and professional development, based on the framework of common and specific competencies for the specialist nurse in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, as well as master's level competencies. The third part presents a Continuous Quality Improvement Project in Nursing Care, structured around a problem experienced in clinical practice and during the internship. Suicide is a complex issue affecting our society, whose impact extends beyond the lives lost to include the profound suffering experienced by those who attempt or contemplate it, as well as by those around them. The promotion of hope was approached as a protective intervention against the suffering of individuals who have attempted suicide. A psychotherapeutic intervention programme was structured, consisting of a set of hope-promoting activities, scientifically tested and directed at suicide risk, which was systematically assessed during hospitalization and one week after discharge. From the implementation of the project, a multiple case study is presented, providing evidence of increased hope and reduced suicide risk. It is concluded that this pathway supports a specialized nursing practice grounded in scientific evidence and in the continuous development of advanced competencies, based on the frameworks of Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, capable of ensuring safe and highquality nursing care.
