Abstract(s)
A atividade agrícola sempre esteve enraizada na cultura portuguesa. Atualmente, o
Agricultural activity has always been rooted in Portuguese culture. Currently, the agricultural system has been undergoing changes in its techniques and processes, with the intensive use of greenhouses, being increasingly visible in Portugal landscapes, for largescale production of red fruits and others. However, the Portuguese coast also presents a growing importance of the tourism sector. The municipality of Odemira, has been suffering a major impact at a social, economic, and environmental level, with the increase in intensive agriculture, using the of greenhouses, even within a protected area: the Parque Natural Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, this being the existing problem due to the high number of greenhouses in this protected area. At the same time the increase in agricultural activity brought the need for more labour, which consequently, contributed to the increase in the immigrant population in the municipality, mainly for agricultural work related to greenhouses. The general goal of this research is to understand the visitor’s perception in relation to intensive agriculture and the current migratory flow. Using a survey Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient (for the validity and reliability of the questionnaire) and contingency analysis with the chi-square test. It is concluded that although the agricultural sector currently has a great relevance in the municipality of Odemira, this investigation allowed us to understand how tourism may be affected through the perception of visitors who travel to the municipality on this topic. Additionally, the more recent the last visit to the municipality, the greater the visitors’ perceptions about the impact of greenhouses and migratory flows. On the other hand, with regard to security and although the results did not reveal a dimension of the problem that could still be worrying, the results revealed thar women identify a greater feeling of insecurity, compared to men. The different perceptions about the problems under study in this investigation also showed differences between visitors who stay and those who do not stay in the municipality.
