| dc.description.abstract | Com o desenvolver da população mundial há também o aumento do alimento que esta consome, e a consciencialização e procura de uma alimentação mais saudável leva ao aumento da procura de peixe, o que resulta na necessidade de uma alternativa mais sustentável à pesca tradicional. Desta problemática surge a oportunidade da aquacultura se desenvolver como a forma sustentável para suprimir esta necessidade crescente. Este estágio foi realizado no âmbito do mestrado em aquacultura na Safiestela - Sustainable Aqua Farming Investments, S.A, localizada na Estela, Póvoa de Varzim, e pertencente ao grupo Sea Eight. Esta instalação, por ser uma maternidade, realiza todo o ciclo do linguado senegalês (Solea senegalensis), iniciando na reprodução de modo a obter ovos viáveis até à sua fase juvenil, mantidos na pré-engorda até serem transportados para uma das três engordas do grupo Sea Eight. Esta empresa destaca-se ainda por ser uma produção intensa de linguado em sistema fechado, através do uso de RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture System), possibilitando não só oferecer as condições ideais para o crescimento, como também é uma opção sustentável ao efetuar o tratamento da água utilizada e recirculação da mesma de modo a minimizar os gastos de água e impactos ambientais que o uso excessivo da mesma teria. O estágio teve uma duração de 1680 horas, iniciando a 5 de setembro de 2024 até 10 de julho de 2025, tendo como objetivo a prática dos conhecimentos obtidos durante o mestrado, bem como adquirir competências do ambiente profissional. Para tal, foi proporcionado a participação nas rotinas de todas as secções, podendo manipular e preparar o alimento vivo para ser fornecido às larvas até o manuseamento do linguado para ser transportado até a engorda. Foi ainda permitido a participação na introdução do sistema aquaManager - Hatchery, que se revelou uma excelente ferramenta para uso diário e manter a rastreabilidade durante toda a produção. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | With the growth of the world’s population, there is also an increase in the amount of food it consumes. The growing awareness and demand for healthier diets has led to a higher demand for fish, which in turn creates the need for a more sustainable alternative to traditional fishing. From this issue rises the opportunity for aquaculture to develop as the sustainable way to meet this increasing demand. This internship was carried out as part of the master’s degree in aquaculture at Safiestela - Sustainable Aqua Farming Investments, S.A., located in Estela, Póvoa de Varzim, and part of the Sea Eight group. This facility, being a hatchery, completes the entire life cycle of the Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis), starting with reproduction to obtain viable eggs, all the way to the juvenile stage, where they are kept in pre-ongrowing until being transported to one of Sea Eight group’s three grow-out farms. This company also stands out for its intensive production of sole in a closed system, using RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture System), which not only allows for ideal growth conditions, but it’s also a sustainable option by treating and recirculating the water used, thereby minimizing water consumption and the environmental impacts that excessive water use it would have. The internship lasted for 1680 hours, starting on the 5 of September 2024, and ending on July 10, 2025, with the aim of putting into practice the knowledge acquired during the master’s program, as well as gaining skills in a professional environment. To this end, participation in the routines of all sections was provided, from handling and preparing live feed for the larvae to handling the sole for transport to the grow-out farms. I was also allowed to participate in the introduction of the aquaManager - Hatchery software, which proved to be an excellent tool for daily use and for maintaining traceability throughout the whole production process. | eng |
