This report details the professional experience acquired during an internship at company COBERFER, within the framework of the Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering – Civil Structures at the Polytechnic of Leiria, entitled “Engineering Work preparation in steel construction: a case study”. The tasks undertaken during the internship encompassed the analysis of real steel construction projects, encompassing the phases of technical analysis, digital modelling based on BIM methodology, and the preparation of documentation required for manufacturing, dispatch, and assembly processes. The activities performed comprised the review of budgets, verification of plans and construction sketches used for the subsequent development of the digital three-dimensional structural model in Tekla Structures. This process enabled the definition and detailing of primary structural elements (beams and columns) and secondary elements (roof purlins and façade girts), as well as termination, fastening, and finishing components. Technical drawings for cutting, assembly, and erection were also produced, supplemented by AutoCAD for the creation of specific technical details. In parallel, technical dossiers covering the work, dispatch, and assembly phases were organized, and the supply of materials was managed, including structural steel, galvanized components, bolts, and accessories. This experience consolidated skills in 3D modelling, interpretation of technical documentation, complementary verification of structural design, and management of construction processes, integrating academic knowledge into a professional context and providing a comprehensive view of steel construction project preparation.
