Abstract(s)
It was in 2017 that interest arose in developing the process of setting up Geoparque Oeste. With the help of partners and organisations such as the Escola Superior de Turismo e Tecnologia do Mar, the project in question has come to life and has been growing in the eyes of the general public. Given the interest in the process of proposing Geoparque Oeste as a UNESCO World Geoparque, it was decided to dedicate this work contributing to it. This project consists of the creation of 2 cultural routes within the scope of Archaeotourism, based on the terrestrial and nautical archaeology of the Oeste area and the themes of Shipwrecks along the coast and the use of the territory by the Roman Civilization. The study presents a methodology based on an exploratory descriptive analysis carried out through bibliographical research, recognition and information gathering, also supported by comparisons with geoparks with similar resources through criteria for setting up cultural routes, as well as the collaboration of Executive Coordinator Miguel Reis Silva. Based on the collection of information and comparisons of national and international geoparks, it can be concluded that Geoparque Oeste has the means to correct disparities regarding the still desegregated inter-municipal tourism resources in the Oeste area and that these routes, constituting a base for scientific research related to marine resources within the geopark, meet the objectives outlined by SDG 14 on Life Below Water.
