This project aims at the development, dimensioning, and implementation of a conversion system for a manual gearbox with an “H”-pattern layout into a sequential selection system. The proposal focuses on optimizing the gear-shifting process, seeking to increase shift speed, precision, and efficiency between gear changes, as well as to provide a more intuitive operation suited to the context of motorsport competition. The gearbox under study corresponds to the BMW ZF S5, widely recognized for its robustness and application in rear-wheel-drive BMW vehicles. The conversion involves replacing the traditional selection mechanism with a sequential mechanism, maintaining the base transmission housing structure, introducing only minor structural modifications to the gearbox casing, but significant changes to its internal components. The project will be based on a dogbox-type gearkit (dog engagement system), supplied by RMC Engrenagens, a company specialized in the development and manufacturing of high-performance transmission components. The study includes a detailed analysis of the mechanical principles involved, including the kinematics of the selection mechanism. In parallel, a functional prototype will be implemented on a test gearbox, enabling the experimental validation of the proposed solution. Parameters such as operational smoothness, structural reliability, and load behavior will also be evaluated. Thus, the project aims to demonstrate the technical feasibility of converting a conventional manual transmission into a sequential system.
