Abstract(s)
According to the World Health Organization, in 2021 it was estimated that more than 55 million people worldwide were living with dementia. This number is expected to rise to 78 million people by 2030 and 139 million by 2050. Experts indicate that the number of cases could increase significantly due to the ageing of the population and the growth of risk factors associated with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's. Dementia is considered a complex syndrome associated with the elderly, which is progressive and ultimately leads to death. It is characterized by disturbances in various functions, including memory, cognition, orientation, comprehension, language, learning ability and judgment. This research aims to understand the experience of informal caregivers of people with dementia. To identify the difficulties these caregivers experience in their daily care and the strategies they use. The methodologies used are based on the application of qualitative methods, including field observations in the day center of the entity involved in the study, in the patient's home, as well as interviews with caregivers and health professionals. The aim is to develop a set of needs and strategies to support informal caregivers of people with dementia and to guide designers in future design interventions to assist these caregivers.
