- Cultural adaptation and validation of the Brazilian Portuguese version of the PROactive Physical Activity in COPD–clinical visit instrument for individuals with COPDPublication . Santana, André Vinicius; Fontana, Andrea Daiane; Almeida, Rafaela Cristina de; Mantoani, Leandro Cruz; Camillo, Carlos Augusto; Furlanetto, Karina Couto; Rodrigues, Fátima; Cruz, Joana; Marques, Alda; Jácome, Cristina; Demeyer, Heleen; Dobbels, Fabienne; Garcia-Aymerich, Judith; Troosters, Thierry; Hernandes, Nidia Aparecida; Pitta, FabioObjective: To adapt the PROactive Physical Activity in COPD-clinical visit (C-PPAC) instrument to the cultural setting in Brazil and to determine the criterion validity, test-retest reliability agreement, and internal consistency of this version. Methods: A protocol for cultural adaptation and validation was provided by the authors of the original instrument and, together with another guideline, was applied in a Portuguese-language version developed by a partner research group from Portugal. The adapted Brazilian Portuguese version was then cross-sectionally administered twice within a seven-day interval to 30 individuals with COPD (57% were men; mean age was 69 ± 6 years; and mean FEV1 was 53 ± 18% of predicted) to evaluate internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Participants also completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), the modified Medical Research Council scale, the COPD Assessment Test, and Saint George's Respiratory Questionnaire to evaluate criterion validity. Results: The C-PPAC instrument showed good internal consistency and excellent test-retest reliability: "amount" domain = 0.87 (95% CI, 0.73-0.94) and "difficulty" domain = 0.90 (95% CI, 0.76-0.96). Bland & Altman plots, together with high Lin's concordance correlation coefficients, reinforced that agreement. Criterion validity showed moderate-to-strong correlations of the C-PPAC with all of the other instruments evaluated, especially with the IPAQ (rho = -0.63). Conclusions: The Brazilian Portuguese version of the C-PPAC is a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating the experience of Brazilian individuals with COPD with their physical activity in daily life.
- Is Additional CEO Remuneration a Performance Driver? DAX CEOs EvidencePublication . Costa, Magali; Lisboa, Inês; Marzinzik, RenéThis study aims to understand the impact of the additional remuneration of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) over the mean remuneration of the board of directors on firms’ financial performance. The objective is to understand if the highest compensation of the CEO is a firm performance driver. In addition to the impact of total remuneration, the different remuneration components were split and analyzed. An unbalanced panel data of listed companies in DAX–Germany over the period from 2006 until 2019 is analyzed. Using dynamic methodology to estimate the models, the results show that higher additional remuneration positively explains higher firm performance measured using both accounting and market measures. The impact is also evident when additional remuneration components are analyzed. These results support the tournament theory, since when CEOs feel rewarded, they are more efficient in increasing the firm’s performance. Moreover, the firms’ financial characteristics, as well as macroeconomic factors, are also relevant to explaining its performance.
- IT/IST/IPLeiria Report on JPEG PCC Core Experiment 4.2: Sparse ConvolutionsPublication . Guarda, André; Rodrigues, Nuno; Pereira, FernandoContext and Objective: The current VM uses a dense 3D representation with dense convolutions Problem: Heavy in computation complexity, cannot encode a full point cloud at once; Underperforms for sparse point cloud Objective: Implement the DL models in the VM with a sparse tensor representation, and verify its performance
- Measuring discrimination experienced by people with a mental illness: replication of the short-form DISCUS in six world regionsPublication . Brohan, Elaine; Thornicroft, Graham; Rüsch, Nicolas; Lasalvia, Antonio; Campbell, Megan M.; Yalçınkaya-Alkar, Özden; Lanfredi, Mariangela; Ochoa, Susana; Üçok, Alp; Tomás, Catarina; Fadipe, Babatunde; Sebes, Julia; Fiorillo, Andrea; Sampogna, Gaia; Paula, Cristiane Silvestre; Valverde, Leonidas; Schomerus, Georg; Klemm, Pia; Ouali, Uta; Castelein, Stynke; Alexová, Aneta; Oexle, Nathalie; Guimarães, Patrícia Neves; Sportel, Bouwina Esther; Chang, Chih-Cheng; Li, Jie; Shanthi, Chilasagaram; Reneses, Blanca; Bakolis, Ioannis; Evans-Lacko, SaraBackground The Discrimination and Stigma Scale (DISC) is a patient-reported outcome measure which assesses experiences of discrimination among persons with a mental illness globally. Methods This study evaluated whether the psychometric properties of a short-form version, DISC-Ultra Short (DISCUS) (11-item), could be replicated in a sample of people with a wide range of mental disorders from 21 sites in 15 countries/territories, across six global regions. The frequency of experienced discrimination was reported. Scaling assumptions (confirmatory factor analysis, inter-item and item-total correlations), reliability (internal consistency) and validity (convergent validity, known groups method) were investigated in each region, and by diagnosis group. Results 1195 people participated. The most frequently reported experiences of discrimination were being shunned or avoided at work (48.7%) and discrimination in making or keeping friends (47.2%). Confirmatory factor analysis supported a unidimensional model across all six regions and five diagnosis groups. Convergent validity was confirmed in the total sample and within all regions [ Internalised Stigma of Mental Illness (ISMI-10): 0.28-0.67, stopping self: 0.54-0.72, stigma consciousness: -0.32-0.57], as was internal consistency reliability (α = 0.74-0.84). Known groups validity was established in the global sample with levels of experienced discrimination significantly higher for those experiencing higher depression [Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ)-2: p < 0.001], lower mental wellbeing [Warwick-Edinburgh Well-being Scale (WEMWBS): p < 0.001], higher suicidal ideation [Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS)-4: p < 0.001] and higher risk of suicidal behaviour [Suicidal Ideation Attributes Scale (SIDAS): p < 0.001]. Conclusions The DISCUS is a reliable and valid unidimensional measure of experienced discrimination for use in global settings with similar properties to the longer DISC. It offers a brief assessment of experienced discrimination for use in clinical and research settings. Copyright © The Author(s), 2022. Published by Cambridge University Press.
