- EditorialPublication . Bartolo, Paulo; Chua, C.K.In this issue of Virtual and Physical Prototyping, there are three Virtual Prototyping papers and two Physical Prototyping papers. Interestingly, three of the five papers relate to the area of bone tissue engineering, an area which is of great and current research interest to readers.
- EditorialPublication . Bártolo, Paulo; Chua, C.K.The year of 2012 is a fruitful year for Virtual & Physical Prototyping. The journal has maintained its usual publication record and published a total of twenty-three original research articles (including this issue). Similarly, total citations to this journal in Year 2012 have also maintained at a near-hundred level by the mid-October (Scopus). The stabilized publication record and total citations demonstrate a mature and healthy status of the journal. In this regard, we thank all authors who have made contributions to this journal.
- EditorialPublication . Bártolo, Paulo; Chua, C.K.Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies play a key role in the advancement of biomedical applications. In this issue, we share with the readers the roles of AM technologies in two applications for biomedical engineering, namely scaffolds for tissue engineering and a composite model for club foot.
- EditorialPublication . Bártolo, Paulo; Chua, C.K.This is the first issue of Virtual and Physical Prototyping in 2013. The first three papers of this issue were selected from 2012 International Additive Manufacturing Forum held in Wuhan, China, from 13 to 16 December. The primary purpose of this conference was to review the latest state and trend of Additive Manufacturing technologies. This conference was dedicated to AM research. Through this conference, new findings on the AM processes and potential technical applications in major industries were shared and made available to participants. It was intended that this valuable information be made available to the AM research community to encourage further technological advancements in this field through this special issue.
- Virtual and Physical Prototyping: EditorialPublication . Bártolo, Paulo; Chua, C.K.; Bartolo, PauloThe second half of 2009 is rich in international events in virtual and physical prototyping, a quite active and relevant research field. The Virtual and Physical Prototyping journal is associated with two of these events. The first one is the ECCOMAS Thematic Conference on Tissue Engineering designed to be a major international forum for the discussion of the current state-of-the-art in the fields of Tissue Engineering Modelling and Simulation. This Conference will focus on: . understanding the fundamentals of tissue engineering; . modelling and characterisation of scaffolds for tissue engineering; . modelling the relationship between scaffold, cell attachment, proliferation and differentiation; . design and development of scaffolds for tissue engineering; . fabrication and testing of scaffolds for tissue engineering; . cell signalling; . computational bone mechanics.
