Background: Family Nursing has emerged over the years as an essential nursing practice area in health promotion, disease prevention, rehabilitation, and transition processes. In the field of Family Health Nursing, care increasingly moves beyond the individual, recognizing the family as a unit of care, a partner in the therapeutic process, and a fundamental resource within the care community. This report integrates the pathway developed during the internship, articulating clinical practice, the theoretical foundations of Family Health Nursing, the development of specialized competencies, and evidence-based specialized practice. The research component, integrated into the CuidarFam project, focuses on the importance attributed to the family in nursing care from nurses’ perspectives, comparing the contexts of Ovar and Évora. Objectives: This report aims to demonstrate the pathway of developing specialized competencies in Community Nursing within the area of Family Health Nursing. The research had the general objective of comparatively analyzing the level of importance attributed to the family in nursing care from nurses’ perspectives in Ovar and Évora. Specific objectives included: Comparing this level of importance between the two contexts and analyzing its association with sociodemographic and professional variables. Methodology: A quantitative, descriptive, analytical, correlational, comparative, and cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample included 72 nurses: 31 from Ovar and 41 from Évora. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire composed of sociodemographic and professional data and the Families’ Importance in Nursing Care – Nurses’ Attitudes scale (FINC-NA). Data from Ovar were collected through an online questionnaire distributed via Microsoft Forms between November 27 and December 10, 2025. Data from Évora resulted from a previous collection conducted within the same CuidarFam project. Data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics, including descriptive and inferential statistics, with parametric tests applied after verification of statistical assumptions. Results: The results showed that nurses in both contexts attributed high importance to the family in nursing care. The total mean FINC-NA score was 80.03 in Ovar and 77.93 in Évora. Although nurses from Ovar presented a slightly higher average, the difference between the two contexts was not statistically significant. Therefore, the hypothesis regarding the existence of differences between Ovar and Évora was not confirmed. No statistically significant associations were found between the analyzed sociodemographic variables and the level of importance attributed to the family. Regarding professional variables, only the area of specialization showed statistically significant differences, suggesting that this dimension may influence how nurses value the family in the care process. Conclusion: The pathway undertaken helped consolidate the understanding of the family as a unit of care and reinforced the importance of evidence-based specialized practice. The research findings show that the family is globally valued by nurses, although this appreciation does not always guarantee its full, systematic, and documented integration into care. Therefore, it becomes necessary to continue promoting a more intentional family-centered practice, supported by family assessment and intervention models, as well as records that make family care visible and bridge the gap between what is recognized as important and what is effectively implemented in daily care. In this sense, “the family on the map of care” represents not only the theme of the report but also the synthesis of a way of understanding Family Health Nursing: a practice that views the person within their relational context, values scientific evidence, and recognizes every interaction as an opportunity to care for the family as well.
