Abstract(s)
The Geoparque Oeste is a specific region that is in the process of applying to become a geopark recognized by UNESCO and possibly designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark. This territory seeks international recognition for its geological and cultural significance. In this regard, GO has implemented a series of initiatives to promote and drive the development of the region covered by the Geoparque Oeste. A notable example is the Golden Nail Program, which aims to promote the connection between the geological, cultural, and biological heritage of the territory and its local gastronomic traditions, contributing to the preservation of community identity and the sustainable development of local economic agents, recognizing distinctive local products. This research work aims to understand the impact of the Programa Prego Dourado in the West Region and how it differs from other geoparks, through the analysis of various elements related to existing geoparks in Portugal, with special attention to the work carried out by the Geoparque Oeste. In order to reach a conclusion, three methods were employed: direct observation, questionnaires, and interviews. Information was collected from existing geoparks, particularly regarding the brands used by Geoparks and their regulations; how other Geoparks recruit adherents to their brands; the degree of satisfaction of entities adhering to the Programa Prego Dourado, investigated the shortcomings of the Programa Prego Dourado and the reasons why some entrepreneurs in the West Region have not joined the Programa Prego Dourado. The study in question is of interest to the Geoparque Oeste, hotel establishments, producers, and local traders in the territory covered by GO.
