- A Software-Defined Radio for Future Wireless Communication Systems at 60 GHzPublication . Gomes, Rodolfo; Duarte, Luis; Ribeiro, Carlos; Caldeirinha, RafaelThis paper reports on a complete end-to-end 5G mmWave testbed fully reconfigurable based on a FPGA architecture. The proposed system is composed of a baseband/low-IF processing unit, and a mmWave RF front-end at both TX/RX ends. In particular, the baseband unit design is based on a typical agile digital IF architecture, enabling on-the-fly modulations up to 256-QAM. The real-time 5G mmWave testbed, herein presented, adopts OFDM as the transmission scheme waveform, which was assessed OTA by considering the key performance indicators, namely EVM and BER. A detailed overview of system architecture is addressed together with the hardware considerations taken into account for the mmWave testbed development. Following this, it is demonstrated that the proposed testbed enables real-time multi-stream transmissions of UHD video content captured by nine individual cameras, which is in fact one of the killing applications for 5G.
- Disruptive Future of Radar Based on All-Digital PN Signal ProcessingPublication . Ribeiro, Carlos; Ferreira Gil, João; Caldeirinha, Rafael; Reis, Joao R.; Sardo, Andre; Duarte, Luis; Leonor, NunoThis paper presents the first results on the design and implementation of a real-time and high resolution monostatic radar at 24 GHz, based on the sliding correlation of pseudonoise (PN) sequences. The real-time radar, with a high time resolution better than 4ns, is used for moving target identification (MTI) in the presence of highly dense clutter, under harsh environments and severe weather conditions (fog, snow and fire smoke or plume). A radar signal processing based on alldigital PN sequences is proposed, which represents a quantum leap in radar future front-end architecture. Results obtained in a controlled environment, inside an anechoic chamber, are presented and a benchmark with a commercially-of-the-shelf solution is presented. © 2019 IEEE.
- How Health Literacy impacts Polytechnic of Leiria Students?Publication . Teixeira Ascenso, Rita Margarida; Luis, Luis; Dias, Sara; Gonçalves, DulceIn 2021, aHealth Literacy(HL) evaluation among university students revealed notable limitations in HL. To assess the general HL of populations comprehensively, the European HLSurvey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q) was developed, encompassing 12 subdomains to provide a broad perspective on public health. In 2014, the questionnaire was adapted for use in Portugal, resulting in the HLS-EU-PT version, validated through a 16-question survey (HLS-EU-PT-Q16).Global HL andthreedomains’ indexes and levelswere determined, namely Healthcare (HC), Disease prevention (DP), and Health Promotion (HP). The HLSEU-Q16-PT assessment demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency, with 0.8834Cronbach's alpha coefficient.In this study, an online survey distributedbetween 2020-2021among Polytechnic of Leiria academia allowed data collection from various stakeholders, including 251 students, 109 professors, 15 researchers, and 55 other staff. From the430 responses,75 questions were analysed. The saved data wasthefocus of this work, regarding a thesis of the first edition of the master’s in data science to analysethe 251 surveyed studentsand their HL. The results revealed that thesestudents have lower HL index, and, in this case study,health areadegreeor school impactsHL.
- Interactive and Multimedia Contents Associated with a System for Computer-Aided AssessmentPublication . Paiva, Rui; Ferreira, S. Milton; Mendes, G. Ana; Eusébio, M. J. AugustoThis article presents a research study addressing the development, implementation, evaluation, and use of Interactive Modules for Online Training (MITO) of mathematics in higher education. This work was carried out in the context of the MITO project, which combined several features of the learning and management system Moodle, the computer-aided assessment for mathematics STACK, the mathematical software GeoGebra, several packages from the type-setting program LaTeX, and tutorial videos. A total of 1,962 students participated in this study. Two groups of students taking a calculus course were selected for a deeper analysis. With regard to usability and functionality, the results indicate that MITO scored well in almost all aspects, which is fundamental for their introduction into formal university courses. The analysis of the data reveals that the use of MITO educational contents by students mainly occurs about 1 week and a half prior to the evaluations. Moreover, there is a strong correlation between the results of online assessments on MITO in a continuous assessment model and the final grade on the course.
