- Development of Cutting ToolsPublication . David, Giftus Daniel Titus; Simões, Fábio Jorge PereiraThis internship focuses on the design and development of a cutting tool for aeronautical and aerospace machining, specifically for aluminium. The project involves market research to identify existing tools, analyse their advantages and limitations, and propose innovative modifications to enhance performance and efficiency. A key objective is to develop tools that meet the high precision and durability requirements of the aerospace industry while optimising cutting parameters. To ensure the work remained relevant to industry needs, engineers and machine operators provided input during the project. The developed tool was subjected to preliminary machining trials, evaluating performance in terms of wear, cutting efficiency, and surface finish. Although the testing scope was limited, the findings highlight promising directions for future tool optimisation and industrial application. By integrating advanced machining techniques and innovative tool designs, this project aims to enhance productivity and efficiency in aeronautical and aerospace manufacturing. The results of this research may serve as a foundation for future advancements in cutting tool technology within the industry.
