The glass industry operates in a global market where companies from all around the world compete for the same type of clients, especially the ones on the food industry. To maintain their competitiveness, each company needs to continuously optimize their production processes and assure high levels of quality standards. The present project emerges after recurrent complaints due to breakages in the client’s filling lines, of one jar which is produced for one of Marinha Grande BA Glass plant’s biggest customers. The main goal of this thesis is to identify the main factors that may contribute to a decrease in the impact of resistance to that specific jar. For that, three stages of the production process were studied: raw materials fusion, coatings applications, and jar molding. At the end of the dissertation, it is concluded that the coating thickness of the plungers and their surface roughness may negatively influence the impact resistance of the glass packaging under study.
