This project, developed within the scope of the Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering – Industrial Production, aims to improve the asset management process at Gyptec Ibérica through the design, sizing, implementation and optimisation of a natural gypsum crushing unit integrated into the production process. The work involved the development of the plant layout, the sizing of the main equipment and the implementation of the automation and control architecture required for its operation. The need to replace synthetic gypsum, due to the shutdown of coal-fired power plants in the context of the European energy transition, required process adaptation and the implementation of an efficient and automated crushing unit. The work includes the analysis of the production process, the sizing of the main equipment, and the development of an automation solution based on PLC, HMI, and supervisory systems. Feeding and weighing control systems, industrial communication networks, and safety and dust control measures are also addressed, as they are essential to ensure operational reliability. Additionally, the energy performance of the unit is analysed, with a focus on optimizing electricity consumption and integrating photovoltaic production. A life cycle assessment of the gypsum supply chain is also carried out, enabling the comparison of different scenarios and their respective environmental impacts. The results demonstrate that the implemented solution ensures efficient, safe, and optimized operation, contributing to industrial sustainability and competitiveness.
