Abstract(s)

The study of vehicle dynamics in the field of motorsport is crucial to ensure a dynamically stable race car. For this reason, is necessary to design the vehicle’s suspension for the specific inputs involved on the track. The suspension design starts with the study of suspension kinematics or geometry. If, on a purposely built race vehicle, like formula cars, or supercars, the suspension kinematics are, in principle, designed for circuit racing in mind, in the case of an ordinary road car the same cannot be said. The case study vehicle started its life as an affordable passenger car, but since currently spends most of its life on racing circuits there was a change in the role intended by engineers at the time of the design, this usually leads to an incorrect geometry of the suspension mechanisms that must be corrected. In this project, a special focus is given to the real-life application of the race car and how data acquisition from the vehicle when it is taken around a circuit can provide information necessary to comprehend its dynamic behaviour. With this information, and after performing an analytical analysis, physical changes can be made to the vehicle to achieve the goals intended.
