Smart Campus Parking – Parking Made Easy
Publication . Vieira, Amanda; Rosa, Iolanda; Santos, Ivo; Paulo, Tiago; Costa, Nuno; Maximiano, Marisa; Reis, Catarina I.
The number of users of the parking lots from the campus of the Polytechnic of Leiria, a higher education institution in Portugal, has been increasing each year. It is becoming a major concern to the organization to address the high demand for a free parking spot on campus. In order to ease this problem, this paper proposes the design of a smart parking system that can help users to easily find a free parking spot, using an integrated system that includes sensors and a mobile application.
The system is based on the information about the occupation status of parking lots generated by parking sensors. This information is available in the mobile application that consumes a REST webservice and is presented to end-users, thus contributing to the decrease of time wasted on the quest of finding a free spot. The software architecture consists on a set of decoupled modules that compute and share the information generated by sensors. This architectural approach is noteworthy because it maximizes the system scalability and responsiveness to change. It allows the system to expand with the integration of new applications and perform updates on the existing ones, without an overall impact on the operations of the other system modules.
A decision support system for corporations cybersecurity management
Publication . Roldan-Molina, Gabriela; Almache-Cueva, Mario; Silva-Rabadão, Carlos; Yevseyeva, Iryna; Basto-Fernandes, Vitor
This paper presents ongoing work on a decision aiding software intended to support cyber risks and cyber threats analysis of an information and communications technological infrastructure. The software will help corporations Chief Information Security Officers on cyber security risk analysis, decision-making, prevention measures and risk strategies for the infrastructure and information assets protection.
ENTERPRISE APPLICATION INTEGRATION: APPROACHES AND PLATFORMS TO DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT SOLUTIONS IN THE CLOUD
Publication . Rosa-Sequeira, Fernando; Basto-Fernandes, Vítor; Frantz, Rafael Z.
Nowadays companies have a software ecosystem composed of more than one application to support their business processes. On the Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) field can be found a set of methods, techniques, and tools to integrate them in a synchronous or asynchronous way. In this chapter, we review integration approaches and integration platforms available in the Cloud. We demonstrate the use of an integration platform by means of a case of study for a research outcomes and technological information management integration problem. The proposal addresses Portuguese and international science and research outcomes information management, and corresponding information systems. There are presented problems in interoperability between information systems. A business and technological perspective is provided, including the conceptual analysis and modelling, an integration solution based on a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) and the integration platform to execute the proposed solution. For illustrative purposes, the role and information system needs of a research unit is assumed as the representative case.
A Comparison of Cybersecurity Risk Analysis Tools
Publication . Roldán-Molina, Gabriela; Almache-Cueva, Mario; Silva-Rabadão, Carlos; Yevseyeva, Iryna; Basto-Fernandes, Vitor
This paper presents ongoing work of a decision aiding software intended to support cyber risk and cyber threats analysis of an information and communication technology infrastructure. The work is focused on the evaluation of the most popular and relevant tools available for risk assessment and decision making in the cybersecurity domain. Their properties, metrics and strategies are analysed and their support for cybersecurity risk analysis, decision-making and prevention is assessed for the protection of an organization’s information assets.
