- Establishment of Access Levels for Health Sensitive Data Exchange through Semantic WebPublication . Security aspects like authentication, authorization and encryption must be considered in this context. The main goal of this article is to present the implementation of security mechanisms to a semantic API that allows data extraction from a regional health information system designed to create notifications and to follow patients diagnosed with Tuberculosis. Data semantically tagged will be mapped individually to several access levels. It will be showed how external systems can connect, authenticate and retrieve only authorized data that are classified in the scope of its maximum access level.
- Proposal for selection of mental health indicators in the management of health networks: from heuristic to process modelingPublication . Several studies have been done to select a complete set of indicators for mental health in Brazil; however, these studies do not describe how these principles are transposed into indicators. In this work we will use Business Process Management Notation (BPMN) to analyze the process of patient care in a mental health unit and to search through this analysis to select and map those that apply to the specific RAPS institutions. We propose a method, using process modeling along the Thornicroft and Tansella matrix, to select the relevant indicators and their mapping along the network. The method was effective allowing the application of indicators to the concrete reality of a psychiatric hospital in Brazil.
- Proposal of an ontology for Mental Health Management in BrazilPublication . Additionally, mental health managers need to make decisions based on complex data from dispersed sources with low levels of standardization and integration. This generally hinders knowledge extraction and its use as a reference to provide useful indicators and reports for efficient decision making. In this context, the interoperability between Information Systems is an essential characteristic to establish the capacity of communication, exchange and reuse of information for the generation of knowledge. In order to reduce the data complexity and to assist in the data interpretation, Semantic Web technology can be used. It classifies the stored information with metadata and give them meaning and thematic through the use of ontologies. Therefore, given the importance of mental health and the need for quality data, this article aims to specify and develop an ontology capable of consuming, integrating, analyzing and making available data of a regional mental healthcare network.

Health Observatories have gained global popularity and have been established worldwide since the 1970s. With the advent of the Semantic Web, machines can process, reuse, integrate and understand the meaning (semantics) of the information and knowledge on the World Wide Web to perform complex tasks. Objective. To propose a health observatory conceptual model based on Semantic Web in order to assist in the design, development and implementation processes of a Health Observatory. Methods. The proposed model was based on a conceptual analysis that include Semantic Web technologies narrative review, multi-layer software architecture and an integrative review of Health Observatories. Results. The proposed Health Observatory conceptual model consists of a chain of several related components based on information technology multi-layer architecture, Semantic Web technologies, Health Observatories stakeholders and key concepts. Conclusion. The proposed model can provide opportunities for the development and implementation of new observatories or for the adequacy of existing Health Observatories.
- A web-based information system for a regional public mental healthcare service network in BrazilPublication . Yoshiura, Vinicius Tohoru; Azevedo-Marques, João Mazzoncini de; Rzewuska, Magdalena; Vinci, André Luiz Teixeira; Sasso, Ariane Morassi; Miyoshi, Newton Shydeo Brandão; Furegato, Antonia Regina Ferreira; Rijo, Rui Pedro Charters Lopes; Del-Ben, Cristina Marta; Alves, DomingosBackground: Regional networking between services that provide mental health care in Brazil’s decentralized public health system is challenging, partly due to the simultaneous existence of services managed by municipal and state authorities and a lack of efficient and transparent mechanisms for continuous and updated communication between them. Since 2011, the Ribeirao Preto Medical School and the XIII Regional Health Department of the Sao Paulo state, Brazil, have been developing and implementing a web-based information system to facilitate an integrated care throughout a public regional mental health care network. Case presentation: After a profound on-site analysis, the structure of the network was identified and a web-based information system for psychiatric admissions and discharges was developed and implemented using a socio-technical approach. An information technology team liaised with mental health professionals, health-service managers, municipal and state health secretariats and judicial authorities. Primary care, specialized community services, general emergency and psychiatric wards services, that comprise the regional mental healthcare network, were identified and the system flow was delineated. The web-based system overcame the fragmentation of the healthcare system and addressed service specific needs, enabling: detailed patient information sharing; active coordination of the processes of psychiatric admissions and discharges; real-time monitoring; the patients’ status reports; the evaluation of the performance of each service and the whole network. During a 2-year period of operation, it registered 137 services, 480 health care professionals and 4271 patients, with a mean number of 2835 accesses per month. To date the system is successfully operating and further expanding. Conclusion: We have successfully developed and implemented an acceptable, useful and transparent web-based information system for a regional mental healthcare service network in a medium-income country with a decentralized public health system. Systematic collaboration between an information technology team and a wide range of stakeholders is essential for the system development and implementation.
