- Time (Im)memorial. An exploration of how memories and grief shape our perception of time.Publication . Rubitschung, Lena; Duarte, Susana Nascimento; Inglez, Isabel Coelho de AboimIn the context of my master’s thesis, I want to explore how the perception of time is shaped through memories and emotions, in particular grief. Drawing from a wide array of areas, such as social sciences, literature and cinema, this project builds on a body of research about time; especially non-linear, fluid notions of time. The thesis shifts between personal memories on one hand and the collective experience of grief as a universal feeling on the other; time memorial and time immemorial. Water is a central motif, as it embodies the fluidity of time and is understood as a vessel for memories, holding simultaneously narratives from past, present and future. Experimental in nature, the aim of this thesis is less about telling a story and more about invoking a feeling. The narrative is nonlinear, drifting like memories through various moments in time and place.
